I do not know if there are any aliens in our universe but my best theory is aliens are like smart humans "nerds". They are extremely good with technology and numbers. But they lack when it comes to social skills. I believe this is why if there is such aliens out there, they have no idea how to speak or interact with us humans, possibly afraid or fearful to even try. It may be the reason why they do not want to come down and communicate with us.
